What is an Ancestor Document?

An ancestor document is any official document showing your Ancestor Name and that they were Irish or born in Ireland.

Typical documents would be:

  • Census record
  • Death Certificate
  • Marriage Record
  • Birth or Baptism record

Many other records are also valid; if in doubt contact our friendly team for advice.

Documents do not have to be Irish-issued, as these can be hard to obtain. Official documents from any country are acceptable – US, Canadian,  British, Australian, Argentinian and New Zealand records  are commonly submitted to us.

Transcripts are acceptable where scanned images are not available.

Where no records are available, you have the option of providing an affidavit.
