Find Your Document

The following pages will assist you in locating a supporting document if you are applying for a Certificate of Irish Heritage for either yourself or as a gift for a family member or friend.

We would like to make it as easy as possible for you to locate a document related to your Irish ancestor. Two factors in particular can guide us – when your Ancestor left Ireland and the country in which he or she settled. If you follow the links on this and the next page, you will reach a list of possible sources for your document. Some sources are official Government websites and some are commercial websites. Some are based in Ireland, some are in the country of destination. Where there are multiple sources, we have listed them in the order that we believe will be effective for the majority – but each case is different and you should review several options.

Some sources may charge a fee, and where we are aware of this, it is clearly indicated by the (€€) symbol. Other than official Irish Government sources, we do not recommend or otherwise endorse any specific sources, nor do we have financial links with any of them.

For links to other resources not included in the above guide, visit our Genealogy Resources page.
